Year 11, welcome back.  Hope you had an awesome break.

The woman in the photo above hired someone on the basis of a video link that she included when applying for a job.  Read about it here: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/remarkable-hiring-stories.html  . Thinking outside the box can really help you stand out in a positive way.

Your re-worked Investigations are due on Friday.  Please, PLEase, PLEASE take advantage of this opportunity to make corrections and raise your Investigate grade.  You can come in to work on your project during break and lunch this week.

You should now be working on the Create - Criterion D.

According to the IBO:

Students are expected to document, with a series of photographs or a video and a dated record, the process of making their product/solution, including when and how they use tools, materials and techniques.  Students are expected to follow their plan, to evaluate the plan and to justify any changes they make to the plan while they are creating the product/solution.  This means that you must have a process journal and that it is a necessary component of this criterion.

To get a 5/6:

The student competently uses appropriate techniques and equipment.
The student follows the plan and justifies any modifications made, resulting in a product/solution of appropriate quality using the resources available.

Please leave a comment on this post to acknowledge that you understand your assignment and an appropriate design specification.

Learning Objective:  The student will: use a range of appropriate techniques and equipment competently; ensure a safe working environment for themselves and others; follow the plan to produce the product/soltuion; evaluate the plan and justify any changes to the plan (when necessary); and create a product/solution of appropriate quality.

Year 11, it's time to make a PLAN.

1. Open a Google document,
2. Title your document, Term 2 Plan,
3. Type your name at the top left,
4. Space down, type:  PLAN (all caps, centre justify),
5. Space down, type: Resources

Let's brainstorm the resources each of you will need to create your video.

6. Type the list of resources that we have created,
7. Space down and type: Plan,

 8. Begin to create a list of the steps you will need to take to create your video and the amount of time you think it will take to complete the task (1 min is the minimum).

IB Learner Profile: Well-balanced

Learning objectives:
1. construct a plan to create the product/solution that has a series of logical steps,
2. construct a plan to create the product/solution that makes effective use of resources and time,
3. evaluate the plan and justify any modifications to the design.

February 5, 8

Year 11, good news.  The printer should be working from our classroom.  If you have not done so, please print your Investigation and submit it today.

Now on to the DESIGN - Criterion B - Maximum 6 points   Due Friday, February 10.

Create 2 completely different storyboards for your movie.  Remember that a storyboard is a graphic organizer to help you plot out your movie.  Imagine/envision your documentary and make it come alive. What  Based on your learning create a table and document how you will proceed. You should include:  script (what you plan to say), music (if any), image/video description, comments, transitions, motions, text, special effects, etc.

Good link for learning about storyboarding:

OR do a Google keyword search "storyboard template" and combine elements to create your own storyboard;-)

Brainstorming ideas for storyboard:  Narration, Music,  Text, Transitions, Motion, Background, Costume, Time.

Learning Objective: generate several feasible designs that meet the design specification. In this case several will mean 2.

2. Develop a Design Brief

Write 1 sentence to introduce this section of the project.

Questions/Areas/Topics that will drive my investigation:

1. Why produce an application video?

2. Universities that accept supplemental (essay) videos.

3. Research 3 videos to gather ideas and information. THEN analyze the information: what did you like? what didn't you like? what ideas did you get that you can use in your video? Include printscreens and urls.

4. What should I include in my video? / How personal should I get?

5. What tools can I use? (imovie, windows live movie, photostory 3 or any other tool that you have. Compare/contrast finding then decide which one you will use.)

IB Learner Profile: Inquirer

Please leave a comment on this post to acknowledge that you understand your assignment and an appropriate design specification. If you don't understand the assignment, please raise your hand so I can help you. Thanks so much for that;-)

Learning objectives-The student will: independently identify meaningful questions, carrry out web search, select and organize appropriate sources and evaluate them.

February 2

Year 11, we got turned around today. So, let's recap:

3.  Formulate a Design Specification

My application video must possess the following characteristics:

  • final movie must be saved in a format compatible with Vimeo, (justify this design specification)
  • sound quality, (justify . . )
  • image/video quality (resolution)   (justify . . . )
  • must appropriately/positively portray the candidate    (justify . . .)
  • creative   (justify . . .)
To evaluate my product I will conduct the following tests:

1.  If the movie is able to be uploaded to Vimeo, I can conclude that my video is in a compatible format.

To test the remaining design specifications I will create a questionnaire.  On a scale of 1-5 (1=awful, 5=awesome), I will ask the following questions:

Learning objective: The student will list the specific requirements taht must be met by the product/solution and dsign tests to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification.
